Many clients have commented about my ability to provide healing through the services of massage therapy.
As I tell all those that make such comments, I don't heal anyone. I simply create a space or condition in which clients may heal themselves.
Today's "politically correct" society attempts to create small little boxes for our lives; surrounding us with tight restrictions by imposing what is acceptable utterances from our lips and even dictating what is and isn't tolerable forms of behavior ... even if our words and actions do not affect others.
But the human spirit does not flourish when limited. In fact, the human spirit suffers if a person allows society to diminish its energy. But energy never totally dissipates. It simply remains passive, awaiting an opportunity to charge forth.
English Egyptologist Howard Carter excavated the tomb of King Tutankhamen in 1922. Among the many very rich objects in the tomb, he found stored bean seeds, which had been dormant underground for 3,300 years.
Despite the seeds being inert for 3,300 years, they sprouted to life when planted.
Zendo Daishi, the Chinese Pure Land teacher, once said, "It is very natural to think of my birth as the result of my having parents. But when I think deeply about my life, my parents are not the cause, but the conditions."
The cause of our being as a human is "jino gosshiki," or in other words, our innermost wish to be born. The conditions are our parents. When cause and conditions meet, the human being will be born.
It may be difficult for some to understand "jino gosshiki," but it becomes
clear when we think of King Tutankhamen's beans.
The bean seeds had been dormant for 3,300 years, but they held a strong wish to be born as plants. This inner strength is the cause. The fatherly sun and tender-loving motherly earth, with the affection of water and fertilizer, created the conditions for the seeds to ripen into fine plants.
So it is with my massage therapy services. Outside of societal restraints, the non-judgmental environment which I build with positive energy and the gentle transmission of care and love simply creates a condition; but the cause is the client's innermost yearning to be, instinctively, an enhanced human being.
Do not underestimate the powerful yearning of the human spirit. Indeed, knowing when to ebulliently rise upwards to act upon this hunger is a learned talent. Personally, I believe that being quiet in meditation and allowing the universe to articulate is highly beneficial.
It is most beneficial when massage therapy becomes an integral part of an overall health routine. Holistic healing massage provides an opportunity to slowly peal away the layers of imbalance caused by the influence of external factors on our lives. Indeed, it provides an opportunity for introspection during moments of indulgence.
I find that most people look externally for enlightenment. However, that which we seek is already harbored inside of each and every one of us. To access the enlightenment of the human spirit simply requires moments of quiet interlude and listening with the Universe.
I invite you to come and be indulgent.
